Councilmember Lauren Kleiman was elected to the City Council in 2022 with a commitment to Public Safety and the goal of preserving the exceptional quality of life in Newport Beach.
Lauren is the Vice Chair of the Newport Beach Aviation Committee, Vice Chair of the Orange County Council of Governments (OCCOG), a member of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Board of Directors, and the City’s delegate on the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). She has a long history of service to the community, beginning as a member of the Aviation Committee before being appointed to the City’s Planning Commission, where she served for six years. As a Founding Board Member of the Newport Beach Foundation, Lauren started a Parent Education Series to help families navigate through the difficult issues they are faced with today and furthered the organization’s mission to ignite the next generation of leadership in the City through their high school scholarship and Distinguished Citizen programs.
Lauren’s efforts began in her own backyard as the Vice President of the Cameo Community Association Board of Directors, where she expeditiously overhauled their neighborhood security, communications, and social engagement. Lauren received her Juris Doctor degree and Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine School of Law. She is an attorney and businesswoman who is passionate about giving her time to better the community. Lauren lives in Corona Del Mar with her husband and their son, who enjoy spending their weekends staying active at the beach, walking into the Village, or on the flag football field.
Our Police and Fire are the best-of-the-best. They should be fully-funded and staffed so that they can be effective in their role to keep our community safe and properties secure. We need leadership who prioritizes our public safety and works beyond local measures to control the influx of international criminals and gang members committing property and other crimes.
Since taking office, Lauren has delivered on her promise to reduce homelessness throughout the City; working diligently to propose new policies that hold everyone accountable to getting individuals off of the street. The last Point in Time Count demonstrated the efficacy of these changes as the number of people experiencing homelessness in Newport Beach decreased by 28%, while increasing by 30% countywide. She continues her commitment to make this issue a top priority.
